Website audience intelligence: who visits a site

Audience Intelligence profiles the people who visit a website: where they are, who they are, where they came from and where they go next. You pick one report per call and get its rows back. Use it to research a market, a media buy or a competitor's audience.

What it tells you

You choose which of these reports you want:

  • Traffic by country, with each country's share of traffic and its bounce rate.
  • The age and sex breakdown of the audience.
  • The income breakdown of the audience.
  • Where the site's traffic comes from, and where visitors go next after leaving.
  • A summary view of the site overall.

Every report also names itself in plain words and tells you how many rows came back.

What you need to provide

  • The website domain you want profiled, for example "nytimes.com".
  • Optionally, which report you want: summary, geo, age_sex, income, sources or destinations. It defaults to summary.

What it costs

86 credits per report. Each call returns one report, so ask for the report you need rather than paying for the whole profile. Live per-product costs are shown on the Billing page in your dashboard.

How to run it

  • In the dashboard: Audience Intelligence
  • From your code: POST /v1/audience-intelligence, then see the Developer Hub at app.1lookup.io/developer-hub.

Good to know

  • The figures are estimates of a site's audience, not that site's own analytics, so read them as a shape rather than an exact headcount.
  • Results are point-in-time. Audiences shift, so comparing the same report a quarter apart is more useful than trusting one snapshot.
  • Wanting several angles on one site means several calls and several charges. Decide which reports you need before you start.
  • Check the "found" flag and the row count. Not every domain has a profile, and a thin row count is your signal to be careful with conclusions.
