Backlink overview: how many sites link to a domain
Backlink Overview counts the links pointing at a domain and shows how that link profile breaks down. Use it to judge a site before a partnership, a purchase, a guest post or an outreach push.
What it tells you
- The total number of backlinks pointing at the domain (links on other sites that lead to it).
- How many separate referring domains those links come from.
- An authority score for the domain.
- A plain rating of the link profile's quality.
- The split between follow and nofollow links, and the ratio between them. A nofollow link tells search engines not to pass credit.
- The average number of links per referring domain, and how many distinct network addresses the links come from.
What you need to provide
One input: the root domain you want analyzed, for example "shopify.com".
What it costs
13 credits per lookup. Live per-product costs are shown on the Billing page in your dashboard.
How to run it
- In the dashboard: Backlink Overview
- From your code: POST /v1/backlink-overview, then see the Developer Hub at app.1lookup.io/developer-hub.
Good to know
- Results are point-in-time. Links are added and removed constantly, so the same domain can return different numbers next week.
- Referring domains usually says more than the raw link total. One site can produce a very large number of links on its own, which is exactly what the links-per-referring-domain figure shows you.
- Check the "found" flag first. If there is no record for the domain, there are no counts to read.
- The follow and nofollow split matters for how you read the total: two domains with the same link count can have very different profiles.
