Domain age check: when a domain was registered

Domain Age Check tells you when a domain was first registered, how old it is now, when it expires and who the registrar is. Use it to spot brand-new domains before you trust an email address, a lead, a link or a payment.

What it tells you

• Whether the domain is registered at all.
• The date it was created, its age in days and years and a plain reading of that age such as "16 years, 11 months".
• An age band for the domain, plus a flag for domains registered very recently.
• The registrar that holds it, the expiry date and how many days are left until expiry.
• The nameservers on the domain and the status codes the registry has set on it.
• A risk score and a plain risk level based on what was found.

What you need to provide

One input: the domain you want checked. Full web addresses and subdomains are reduced to the registrable domain for you, so you can pass what you have.

What it costs

2 credits per lookup. Domains that turn out not to be registered are not charged. Live per-product costs are shown on the Billing page in your dashboard.

Good to know

• The dates are read live from the registry's own record, not a cached third-party copy, so the creation date is the registry's version of events.
• Results are point-in-time. A domain can be renewed, transferred, updated or allowed to expire after your lookup, so treat every field as true at the moment you asked.
• Age is a signal to weigh, not a verdict. Old domains can still be used badly, and plenty of new domains are perfectly legitimate.
